How about a 450 hp / 490 lb-ft Hemi of a meager 7 liters at your shoulder connected to a gated ZF 5-speed inside a package weighing around 2,750 lbs? The seats and engine cover are removed in that picture but definitely got my imagination going. Is Pebble Beach something a normy like me can go to?

Yes you can get tickets to Pebble Beach, they aren’t cheap but they aren’t hard to get. The exclusive parties that go on are hard to get into.

You would just need to balance it out with a Viper.

Might want some ear protection for that one.

Somehow, it’s both better and more lame when you have a mid-engined Hemi that’s actually drivable.

I love this thing. I read an article about it in an old Road and Track i have. the chassis is super simple square tubing all around. Terrifying, really.

As long as Jay Leno isn’t in the car everything will be fine.
I’ll toss this down just because I liked the picture.

I wouldn’t want to be sitting in there when one of the belts decided to let go. That could hurt.

And it’s also the only mid engined Hemi car to use Borrani wire wheels. It’s newer sister car had to settle for alloy wheels. Here’s the sister posing naked. The picture also shows that Hai used De-Dion rear suspension (like many other Monteverdis).

More than any other picture, that captures the Silly Days of drag racing. Wait, no, there’s one a little crazier.
Hard to pick out, but the above is the Tommy Ivo Showboat (FOUR BUICK NAILHEADS ZOMG) vs. Roy “Mr. Pitiful” Drew’s Black Widow, a Turbonique rocket axle-powered Beetle.
1966 was
fucked up.
Also in ‘66, the first appearance of the Hurst Hairy Olds:
